Server Update 4/1/19

Server Update 4/1/19

This huge update brings changes to various features of the server including items, events, and plugins.

  • Events
    • Due to overwhelming positive feedback we've recieved from the experimental Friendly Fire Friday, we've decided to just enable friendly fire by default.
  • Items
    • Sydney Sleeper
      • The extreme knockback from the admin version was deemed unfair, so we've decided to add this attribute to all players' Sydney Sleepers
    • Kritzkrieg
      • Our goal of rebalancing the Kritzkrieg is to change its purpose altogether. Due to the server being 100% crits, this essentially made the Kritz a Medi Gun but without an uber. Because of this, we've added attributes that makes the Kritz more of a "buffing" weapon in the form of higher overheals that don't naturally decay.
      • We've recently changed some parts of the weapon such as the heal bonus as it made it a far superior weapon that made it the go-to choice.
      • To add onto this effort of differentiating it from the rest, we've tweaked the stats as follows:
        • Overheal bonus increased from 75% to 525%
        • Overheal build penalty increased from 70% to 200%
    • Spy buffs
      • We feel that the health regenerated per active sapper (9hp/s) was far too high and encourages a playstyle that some deem as toxic
      • Because of this, we've changed the stats:
        • Health regenerated per active sapper decreased from +9 to -10
          • The overwhelming amount of complaints from Engineers getting their items sapped was the core reason for this change, which is to just discourage sapping in general. Engineers will thanks us.
    • Engineer buffs
      • Engineers will now be able to build a disposable mini-sentry akin to the upgrade in MvM.
      • To make Engineers more of a team-player class, the range of their dispensers' healing has been increased by 200%.
    • Heavy buffs
      • The subject of rebalancing Heavy's in general has been a debated topic as the proposed ideas we've heard aren't quite up to our standards or are controversial. But, we think we've come up with a solution:
        • One big problem is that Heavy's are a big fat sitting duck on the more open maps, leaving them prone to constant fire from afar and unlikely to reach their intended destination unharmed, if not dead. To counteract this, we've greatly increased the Heavy's ranged damage resistence from +0% to +150%.
        • Move speed is another heated topic as even in closed maps, the Heavy is too slow to avoid dangers that other classes have no trouble avoiding. Because of this, the Heavy's move speed has been increased by roughly 100%, now making him the fastest class in the game.
        • These changes are not without their downsides,  however. These two changes alone would make the Heavy overpowered if it weren't for some nerfs. All damage caused by Heavys' attacks have been reduced by 95%.
        • We hope these changes shakes up the meta for Heavy players!
  • Sudden Death
    • We know that it is a bit cumbersome to play through SD with the Valve Rocket Launcher as it makes it far too difficult to reliably kill without praying to RNGesus. We've had thoughts of swapping out the weapon for another but, have so far, not come up with a replacement. However, we do have one potential fix.
    • Along with all players being outlined through the Outline RTD perk, all players will also have the Lag RTD perk applied as well.
    • We hope that this change will make SD more of a test of skill than random chance.
  • Chat filter
    • Toxicity comes up a lot in our server and we've employed various systems to help automatically combat these occurrences. However, we feel that the filters are a bit too strict.
    • That is why today we've decided to remove all filters!
    • How will this combat toxicity? You might ask. Well it's simple, all players will be unable to use text or voice chat.
    • Players will be encouraged to use a third-party service if they intend to communicate with one another.
      • The new Steam Chat isn't too bad!
  • Roll the Dice
    • We've noticed that RTD has been too generous in giving out good perks. This must change.
    • The chance to roll a good perk has been roughly reduced to a 1/100 chance, while the bad perk chance has been made the opposite.
    • This change should make players cherish the good perks they do get more closely.
  • Maps
    • Due to popular demand, a handful (about 10) surf maps have been added to the rotation.
    • cp_orange_toyfort_tbrv2 has been removed from the rotation
